Maison Rouge | Dinner With a Spectacle!
It’s not always the dinner and drinks that are designed to impress. Sometimes we also need to focus on the entertainment and wow appeal an establishment offers. Maison Rouge is right on top of the list. I must admit though, after my visit to Moulin Rouge in Paris, my expectations from this place had somewhat gone up a notch. But considering we live in a comparative conservative society, I decided to tone down my just-back-from-Europe brain a bit. And the end result: I wasn’t disappointed one bit.
A fair representation of the Paris Broadway, Maison Rouge does it right in Dubai style – with the glamour, glitz, extravagance, drinks and of course, food! In fact, this place is also home to the exquisite 24 Karat burger. But more on that in a bit.
The welcome at Maison Rouge was as stylish as the rest of the evening. Or maybe it set a standard to what we could expect to follow. These gorgeous Amuse Bouche Shots featured a raspberry margarita concoction served in real roses. Now how romantic is that?
If there’s a burrata on the menu, it has to be on my table. And I am glad I ordered this Burrata with Pesto & Tomatoes (AED 80). The cheese was absolutely creamy and the pesto sauce just went perfectly with the heart of mozzarella. The tomatoes were pretty fresh too, and made the right combination in terms of balancing color and flavor.
When I ordered the Khachapuri, I was expecting the traditional boat styled one, but this Khachapuri (AED 70) is probably even better than the one I had in Tbilisi! If you are a fan of cheese pastry or simply enjoy this Georgian delicacy, then you’ll love the Khachapuri at Maison Rouge. Served in a pizza style with soft gooey cheese oozing out of the warm fresh bread, this dish is just perfect. Tempted yet? #RashidaRecommends
The presentation of the Mexican Quesadilla (AED 85) was good, but it was quite average in terms of taste. Although they were a little dry for my liking, dipping them in the sauce made them somewhat better.
The Popcorn Shrimps (AED 75) were the perfect bite sized snacks, but a little steep for the quantity. I would love it if they could make these in chicken too!
With a hint of rouge red, the Homemade Fettucine Pasta with Truffle (AED 120) came twirled with fresh cream, black truffle and parmesan – making it a perfect 10 in terms of rich taste. The micro greens garnish made it such a wonderful sight to look at!
The Ravioli with Ricotta and Spinach (AED 90) comes in a creamy basil sauce. But it is the combination of spinach and ricotta that make it a surprise in every bite. A great option for vegetarians.
Chicken Kiev (AED 95) was one of the many north Asian specialties on the Maison Rouge menu. A very hearty portion of poultry, this boneless chicken breast was crumbed fried on the outside and filled with herbaceous butter within. The mashed potatoes with a drizzle of truffle oil made the perfect side.
These Lamb Ribs with Baby Potatoes (AED 180) were quite tender and petite. A must have for lamb lovers, this dish came with baked rosemary potatoes which made the right carby side.
Finally, it was time for the grandest item on the Maison Rouge menu. Quite a huge one (and quite pricey too), the Red Gold Maison Rouge Beef Burger (AED 365) came wrapped with 24 Karat gold leaf. Featuring a juicy Angus beef patty, sandwiched between red homemade buns with tomato, cheese, caramelized onions and cucumber, this one was good enough to share between 3-4 people. So make sure you split this one, unless you have a really big appetite.
There’s always place for Tiramisu (AED 65). Yet another great Tiramisu in Dubai, this one was really creamy and chocolaty, and came in a generous portion making it ideal for sharing.
So creative and so delicious at the same time, this Maison Rouge Cheesecake (AED 65) was covered with a crunchy white chocolate crust and topped with sweet and sour berries. I loved the combination of the white chocolate which opened up into a dense creamy cheesecake. Order this if you are a cheesecake fan!
