Maiden Shanghai – fine dine Chinese in Palm Jumeirah

Ordering food at Maiden Shanghai wasn’t very difficult. Located at the luxurious FIVE Palm Jumeirah, their menu offers a compact selection of Chinese fare from across the country. So whether you’re looking for light n’ sweet Cantonese flavors, hot n spicy Sichuan spices, Beijing dry chili heat or local seafood from Shanghai, you’ll find it all in here.

Starters & Soup

To start with, we tried Salt & Pepper Prawns, and Crispy Prawn & Chilean Seabass Roll along with a portion of Hot & Sour Chicken Soup.

My favorite were the rolls. They had a lemongrass flavor which made them so fragrant and not fishy at all. I was a little skeptical before ordering this, but I’m glad I went with our server’s recommendation at Maiden Shanghai and gave them a try. The other prawns were quite good too – crispy and juicy. I loved that they were served with loads of chilies on the side.

The soup was just alright – a little too watery in texture than I like. I would probably opt for a classic sweetcorn next time.

Main Course

For mains we tried Organic Kung Pao Chicken and Stir Fried Loin of Lamb with ginger & spring onion. These were accompanied by Wok Fried Rice with egg & preserved vegetables and Mushroom & Vegetable Stir Fried Noodles with soya sauce.

Kung pao, with an abundance of cashews and red chilies was great. The bite sized chicken pieces were perfect a. it was good on its own without the need for any side carbs.

The lamb was well done and addition of crunchy peppers is what made it really enjoyable for me.

The brown rice at Maiden Shanghai were a little bland with a bitter after taste, making it a better choice with a gravy than on its own. The noodles, with little mushrooms inside, were great. But they were much easier to eat with a fork than with chopsticks.
