Margaritas

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the Miss Chief brunch at Muchachas were these Margaritas. Offering a myriad of flavors that can be served in a pitcher or in a glass, and either chilled or frozen, there is nothing to not love about these.

To start off with, we went straight in with a pitcher of their bestseller Watermelon & Raspberry Margarita. And about mid-brunch, after downing all that ‘rita (yes, every last sip), we moved forward with a chilled Fiery Muchacha, spiced up with Habanero peppers and a frozen Passion Fruit & Lemongrass Margarita!
Apart from these, they also have other quirky combinations like tamarind & jalapeno, pineapple & basil, strawberry & peach, as well as sangrias, gin based cocktails and selected house pours.

One thing I absolutely loved is their salt & chili mix rims. It gives you a new level of high (if you know what I mean)!

First Wave

Let’s start with the first wave of that awesome brunch from last Friday. Along with one of the best guacamole I have ever had, this one included a lovely portion of Chicken Wings and a pair of Veal Sopes.

Served with colorful tortilla chips, the guac was enhanced with the classics – pico de gallo, jalapenos and lime.

The buttermilk fried chicken wings, not as spicy or crunchy as I had expected them, came coated in smoked chipotle sauce and burnt honey.

The veal sope however, was a class apart. Pulled pibil beef topped with avocado and red onions, snuggled in a doughy base made the perfect comfort food choice to go with the margaritas.

My favorite from the three? The guac of course! Just give me ’em guac & ‘ritas and that’ll be all I’ll ever need.

You can experience these too. Just book yourself (and your friends) a brunch at Muchachas this Friday, and you’ll agree with everything I have said in here.

Second Wave

The second wave of Miss Chief brunch combined a little of surf and farm in three amazing Latin dishes.

My favorite; chicken quesadillas are something I can never say no to. These somehow came across like soft-shell tacos at first, but hey, its all Mexican. So as long as the taste impresses, I don’t really care if its a quesadilla or a fajita or a taco, or… the list goes on! I loved, loved, loved the presentation.

Beautifully placed on an artistic swatch of lime crema, these were generously stuffed with adobo chicken and got their bright fragrant addition in the form of coriander.

Next were duck enchiladas. I am not a very big fan of duck meat, so I didn’t really jump in to the enchilada at first, and sorry, but I didn’t even finish them like the quesadillas, but from what I tried, they tasted quite nutty and creamy thanks to the almond and avocado garnish.

But what really stood out in these enchiladas was the smothering of pasilla mole on top. This cocoa and pepper based sauce really upped the presentation as well as the flavor. I would love to try this sauce with something chicken. Maybe next time!

That’s the farm bit. Now moving on to surf, the second wave wouldn’t have been complete without a ceviche. The king fish ceviche filled in that gap and came with tender cubed fish pieces marinated in a lovely red chilli and blood orange based sauce, topped with avocado and coriander. Presented with plaintain chips that were served on the side to scoop the yumminess out of the ceviche bowl, the sauce also exhibited light flavors of cocoa oil and lime.

I really like how ingredients like avocado, coriander and lime are so generously used in these dishes. They not only make the food interesting with their contrasting flavors but also add so much color which falls perfectly in line with the Latin American appeal.

Third Wave

The third wave was neither mine, nor yours, but everyone’s favorite – Tacos! Offered with a choice of four different fillings, these soft shell tacos were quite the bomb. Why, because they were so neatly presented, almost as though the chef was working on some kind of art. We had a choice of chicken, beef, veal and duck, but honestly, we were so stuffed, we just went with the first two options.

While the chicken tacos were served with grilled pineapple pieces (so tropical!) and pickled onions with a drizzle of chipotle and coriander garnish, the beef tacos were covered with a spicy habanero guacamole, topped with fresh cactus (like WOW), and garnished with homemade sweet potato chips.

If I had known about the chips earlier, I would have asked for a bowl of that along with the guac from the first wave. They were that good!

Since we were quite up to the Miss Chief, the chef thought of sending across a brand new dish for us to try. This was made with smoked eggplants and topped with crispy fritters. The fritters, dusted with spices, were perfect to scoop up some of that eggplant mash.

One of the only vegetarian dishes we tried on the brunch menu, apart from the guac of course. Even then, if you are a herbivore, it does not make you any less important. Since everything at Muchachas is made to order, just let them know your preferences when you get there, and rest assured you will get your preferred protein, without any compromise on the flavors.

Desserts

With three waves of just deliciously mindblowing food, one dessert was outright impossible. And we were all ready to tuck in to two. Which we did. While one of them – the churros, were on their Miss Chief menu, here too we got to try the chef’s specialty in the form of a cocoa based dessert. While I don’t know the name of this dessert, but what I do know is what it was composed of. And that’s what’s usually important right?

This one combined pieces of chocolate pannacotta which tasted as smooth as a mousse. This, along with hazelnuts, dried fruits and coconut meringue. Obviously, the coconut was the best part of this whole mix. Those lovely coconut crisps, dusted with cocoa powder, were just how I wanted to end my Miss Chief, or not.

Next came in these wonderfully soft churros. Now I am not a very big fan of anything sugary and deep fried. But these churros were a whole different level of awesome. Made really fresh, means they were quite warm. Plus they weren’t too sticky. In fact, the sugar coating was just about right.

Aaannnddd, they come served with a lovely lovely bowl of melted dark chocolate goodness on the side. Now where else can you find something so comfortingly good, you just want to dip in, one after the other. Oh, and I almost forgot! Just look at how they’ve topped the churros with candy floss. So fiesta like, no?
