Per Te | The Pointe Palm Jumeirah

Located on the west side of The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah is the Italian gem Per Te. Making the most of the gorgeous Atlantis views and an outdoor terrace which is more than perfect for the cooler months, Per Te includes a large indoor seating space that’s divided into a smoking and non smoking zone to suit all preferences. Licensed for drinks, this restaurant brings the best of Italy in the form of antipasti, secondi, pasta, pizza, dolci and more.

While we visited the restaurant on a humid weeknight, where the indoor seating wasn’t very busy and the terrace was obviously empty, Per Te is one place that’s sure to fill up early on the weekends, and you’ll most definitely need to book a table in advance during the winters.

The very hospitable restaurant manager Darryl suggested a couple of customize drinks based on our preferences. While I sipped on a passion fruit mai tai, my plus one enjoyed a whiskey based cocktail. Along with the drinks, we were served some homemade ciabatta bread with a selection of three dips – pesto, sundried tomato and arabbiata. My favorite was the pesto dip, but the spicy arabbiata was a great one too. Our first dish from the antipasti selection was Burrata con pomodorini. Not only was it fresh and creamy, but this burrata had a dense center with a full bodied texture that made it feel different on the palate. The smooth heart of mozzarella paired really well with the cherry tomatoes, basil and balsamic. For salad, we tried the staff recommended Gorgonzolo e pere insalata. With sharp gorgonzola cheese, sweet pear and crunchy walnuts, this salad was a canvas full of textures. I especially loved how the balsamic worked with the pear and cheese like a perfectly balanced trio.

Next up was the Risotto ai frutti di mare. A beautifully put together dish featuring the freshest prawns and calamari with Italian rice, this risotto is a must have for seafood lovers. We asked to exclude black mussels for this one, but it’s included with this dish. For pasta, Darryl brought us the chef’s favorite, Ravioli con spinaci e ricotta. The big specialty about this ravioli is that the homemade pasta is made without any egg. So it’s absolutely vegetarian friendly. The al dente ricotta filled pockets drenched in a rich sage butter sauce almost melt in your mouth.

Our secondi course, the Rib eye, was truly the star of the evening. So gorgeously cooked to a medium well temperature, the noteworthy feature about the steaks at Per Te is that they are not thick, but rather sliced to a slender cut of meat that allows more even cooking, better marination, and the juices simply seep through and through. We chose pepper and mushroom sauces to go with our steak and a lovely potato mash as the carb. I liked the meat more with the pepper sauce.

For dessert, we honestly wanted to try more than one from their tempting selection, but after so much food, we simply decided to stick to the classic Tiramisu. Per Te’s version of this signature dessert was made with an authentic Italian recipe. Very light in texture, this whipped dessert had just the perfect amount of every ingredient. The twist to the mix was the addition of hazelnut syrup that gave it a nutty aftertaste.

I wish I could spread my dinner over two evenings. There is so much more in the menu that I wanted to try, but unfortunately my appetite could only take so much. While I loved the burrata, ravioli, and especially the steak, I will be going back during the winters to try more of the pasta, some pizzas and yet another steak.
