Moe’s on the 5th | Sheraton Grand SZR

Weekend for most of us usually translates into pub and grub, and while we love to keep going back to our favourites, it never hurts to try something new. Having come across this place quite a few times during Zomato search, we finally decided to give Moe’s on the 5th a try. We weren’t quite sure what to expect from this place, but we were really impressed with the combination of swanky interiors, a central bar area, upbeat music and really good food. Moreover, the fact that it’s located in the heart of Trade Center area inside Sheraton Grand Hotel, makes this a perfect spot for people coming from most parts of the city.

Having been invited for a review, we were offered a set menu with a choice of 2 cocktails each, and to be honest, it more than sufficed for the two of us. We started with a Peach Punch for myself and a Happy Ending for my date. The former had peach as the star flavour, a soda base and ginger mint infusions making it a light and refreshing one. The latter had strong floral tones of hibiscus paired with black tea and lemon, making it an intensive but at the same time smooth drink.

For our amuse bouche course, we were presented with Foie a lórange which was essentially foie gras terrine on a French baguette drizzled with orange dressing. I was a little sceptical about eating this since I am not a fan of foie gras at all, but hoping the orange flavour would cover up the rich taste, I gave it a try. While I didn’t taste a lot of citrus, I didn’t have to deal with the liver taste either. And since I literally gobbled it up in one bite, it went fairly well for me.

Next up was the soup course and we were brought a warm bowl of Pumpkin tomato soup. Full of character, this soup, IMHO, was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The manner in which roasted tomatoes and pumpkin came together with candied onions and Camembert cheese in perfect harmony, spoke a lot about the detail and intricacies the chef has put into conceptualizing the recipe.

For starters, we opted for one potion of Vegetable spring rolls and one Quinoa avocado salad. The veggie spring rolls had a good crunch factor to them and they came with a slick sweet chilli sauce on the side. There was a duck option too, but I would have loved it if they had chicken or prawns in their list as well. The salad was a blessing. I loved how there was a lot of green in there, plus the sliced avo, roasted tomatoes and orange dressing. This time I could actually taste the orange flavour zesting through the superfood.

Mains came up next, and instead of opting for the elegant poultry, I decided to take things up a notch with Moe’s burger, while at the same time keeping it simple with Mushroom Rigatoni. Omg, was the burger brilliant or what! The beef patty covered in manchego cheese was supremely juicy and done to just the right temperature giving it a melt-in-your-mouth texture. But that’s not it. The sides included ketchup and a remarkable truffle sauce that made just the right dip for my fries. The pasta was a whole new discovery of its own. It was one of those days where I literally used my fingers to wipe the plate clean until the last drop of sauce. And why not, for the garlic sauce was something different – out of this world if you may. And that beauty combined with Portobello, shitake and parmesan was an explosion of creamy goodness. I honestly can’t decide which main I liked the most, but I sure do know that I felt happily stuffed after.

Obviously, being stuffed is not the best thing when you are about to receive a couple of desserts. Despite that, we gratefully welcomed the Chocolate crème brulee and Mascarpone panna cotta. The former was a rich and creamy chocolate mousse covered by a thin layer of caramelized sugar and served along with a scoop of sorbet-like ice cream. The latter had a smooth pudding like texture that slid right down my throat. I loved the fresh berries that adorned the panna cotta.

Overall, we loved the ambiance, the food and the drinks. It is definitely one of those places I would like to drop by on a Thursday evening.

The restaurant has different seating options, so make sure you pick one that suits you best. You can also seat yourself at the bar if you like. Our table was slightly cramped since it was very close to the bar, so it was a little difficult to have a proper dinner. But if you’re just having drinks and bar bites, then it should be ok. It’s hard to choose my favorite from everything we tried, but if I really had to, then hands down the burger and pasta were the best. I am definitely going back to try more of their drinks and other food options on the menu.
