Britannia Brunch | The Restaurant at Address Downtown
Last Friday we enjoyed the best of Britain with the Britannia Brunch at The Restaurant in Address Downtown. Elegant plush interiors designed in tones of brown, blue and cream tones, this restaurant is bathed in tons of natural light during the sunny hours. Their tall windows also give a sneak peak to the al fresco dining area and offer unparalleled views of the mighty Burj Khalifa.
Quite a spectacle, especially during cooler months and events like NYE, The Restaurant is one spot that tops the list of “brunch with a view”. Speaking of which, let’s move on to find out more about what’s included in the Britannia Brunch.
Packages & Timings
The brunch is simple with a choice of two packages; Chic brunch at AED 295 & Pimms brunch at AED 395. Available every Friday from 1 – 5 pm, it offers buffet styled starters and salads, followed by a la carte sharing style mains and desserts delivered to your table.
Drinks
My favorite part of the brunch was the G+T trolley that put up a grand variety of toppings to choose from and combined it with a tailored G+T mix. I picked fruity with a dash of spicy and got my G+T mixed with tons of berries and a touch of red chili to top it off. A truly refreshing drink for relaxed afternoons like these.
The brunch also featured a selection of different punch drinks – Tropical, Britannia, Highland & Berries. The Britannia Pimms cocktail – much like a Sangria – was served at our table as soon as we were seated and was refilled throughout the afternoon. This classic British G+T concoction is flavored with tea and fruits.
Towards the end I also tried the Berry Punch, only because it looked so pretty, and it sure tasted that way too!
Other drinks at the bar included Bloody Mary & Bloody Maria along with a bunch of toppings like chilli flakes, celery sticks and more.
Buffet Counters & Live Stations
The buffet starters spans across a variety of options right from bread, cheese and dips, and salads to grills, bites, seafood, sushi and more.
I personally love custom salads, so I went straight in to the live salad counter. One of their friendly staff was all ready to toss me up a salad of my choice. I chose to add in everything including salad greens, chickpeas, feta cheese, barley, sundried tomatoes and peppers along with a dash of sweet raspberry and spicy Asian dressing.
My salad was simply wow! The mix of spicy and sweet dressings gave a nice medley of flavors. Chickpeas and peppers have always been my favorite, so this was a total win for me. After trying this one, I have started to have a thing for customized salads.
Breakfast Items
No brunch is complete without a little bit of breakfast, right? So next up for us were the breakfast favorites – Eggs Benedict and Scrambled Eggs. Both were fab, especially the former that was served with turkey ham instead of salmon.
A la carte Mains
Roast of the Day – mutton with Yorkshire pudding, mushroom risotto, gravy, roasted vegetables, mint sauce and mustard
So perfectly British this dish, the mutton was beautifully roasted and the potatoes were done right. The Yorkshire pudding was just brilliant and I instantly fell in love with the risotto.
Rotisserie chicken with pea mash and potato dauphinoise
Love, love love! This rotisserie chicken has to be one of my favorites. Roasted to a fall-off-the-bone texture with a burnt herb crust, it was close to heavenly. The veggies on the side was a really smart (and healthy) choice. The pea mash was fair and the dauphinoise (much like a Shepherd’s pie) was comforting.
Salmon en croute with potato mash
Although the puff was crispy, this salmon pastry was too fishy for me, so I stayed clear. If you’re a salmon fan though, you’ll love this – especially with the lemon butter sauce.
The mash was something else though. The creamiest one I’ve ever had, I was almost on the verge of stuffing it all in my bag so I could bring it back with me and devour it at leisure!
Desserts
To say that we were loaded with desserts would be an understatement. All the desserts they offer in the menu were brought to our table for us to try.
I’ll start with my favorite, the Eton Mess. Very creamy and cool, I loved the texture and flavors that went into this. The slim wafers were especially nice.
The Sticky Toffee Pudding was warm and comforting. A great choice for toffee and cake lovers.
The Signature Crumble with Custard was like an early Christmas delight. Very classic and crumbly, I have always liked these because they make it easy for me to get my “apple a day”.
The Lemon Tart served along with a white chocolate sauce was sour and fair. A very pretty presentation though.
The Ice Creams were simply fab! Fresh and chilled, I loved their creamy, not frozen texture. We were given chocolate and strawberry flavors, but check with them for more.
Chef Says
I had a chance to talk to Chef Udo Moreau during the brunch and he told me how enthusiastic he was about the concept of Britannia Brunch that fuses buffet with table serving in a very laid back ambiance. Coming from a French background, he shared his excitement about creating classic British dishes that have been loved by everyone who has visited the brunch.
