Biryani Pot | Serving the best in Umm Suqueim

What’s the first thing tht comes to your mind when you hear the word Biryani? Yes, Biryani of course But Biryani Pot located in Umm Suqueim is much more than that. Not only do they have a truly delectable selection of rice and quinoa biryanis, but also a great variety of chaat, curries, salads and more.

Drinks

Hot weather calls for chilled drinks, so we started with a Mango Lassi (AED 16) and a Lemon Mint (AED 12) cooler. I almost never have lassi myself, especially before dinner, because it totally fills me up. But my friend had this and loved its creamy, tangy taste. And yes, it was filling. The lemon mint was my drink. Tangy, sour, minty, with a hint of sweetness, it was everything my summer hating soul needed.

Starters

Next came in the starters. Where can you find a samosa chaat as well as a quinoa salad under one roof? At Biryani Pot! The Samosa Chaat (AED 19) was my favorite. Crispy samosas topped with tamarind, mint, yogurt and chhole gravy – I couldn’t have asked for anything better. The Masala Quinoa Salad (AED 26.5) was quite a surprise. I expected something different in terms of masala, but this wasn’t bad nonetheless. The addition of olives gave it a nice twist. Plus the pomegranate seeds and feta cubes balanced it right.

To move on, we went in with the Biryani Pot Mix Grill (AED 59) that featured a mix of chicken, mutton and prawns. I loved the chicken malai tikka and tandoori tikka. The mutton seekh kebabs were amazingly tender. The prawns could have been spicier though. Next up was Daal Makhni (AED 26) with naan. Creamy, buttery, dense and perfect, this was exactly like how daal makhni should be. It went just right with the fresh and crispy naan.

Biryani

You can’t go to a place called Biryani Pot and not have their star dish. So it was time for the star of the show – the Chicken Biryani (AED 44). Served in an earthen pot, it was done so well, this one could not be wasted despite our full tummies. Which is why half of it came back home with me in the very same pot. The chicken was perfect and so were the spices. Having the restaurant named after the dish, obviously puts a lot of pressure to get it right. And these guys nailed it.

Desserts

Finally, we ended it with not one, but two different sweets. The Ras Malai (AED 11) was simply gorgeous. It was the type I like – soft and creamy, soaked on dense milk. I wish I had place to have some more of this. The Gulab Jamuns (AED 13) were too sweet for me, but great nonetheless. They were served warm which added a whole different appeal to the jamuns.

#RashidaReviews

While I highly recommend their Biryani and Samosa Chaat, don’t give up on this place just because you’re not into rice. Their quinoa biryanis are worth a try. And the lemon mint cooler will really cool you off, especially during the summers.
