LUXEMBOURG | Euro Trip Part 2
Stop 2: Luxembourg
12th August 2018
We set off from Frankfurt quite early the next day and hopped onto a pre-booked Flixbus (https://www.flixbus.com/) for a 5 hour long ride to Luxembourg.
Luxembourg! One of the most laidback countries in Europe, this place is built up of a small population of just over 110,000 people out of which 70% are immigrants. Luxembourg is quite a calm city with really friendly people, but you’ll find all the action happening mainly in the centre of the city. Stay here for a day, but any longer and you’ll get bored. That day being a Sunday, the streets were empty and tourists plenty, so we decided to quickly freshen up at our beautiful hotel and head back on a 30 min bus ride to the centre of the city.
Our hotel in Luxembourg: NH Luxembourg http://www.booking.com/Share-5PWHnW
We picked NH Luxembourg located right next to the airport (cheapest on Booking.com during our dates) and the rooms are a bliss. After the really tiny room in Frankfurt, this was truly a breath of fresh air. What’s more, the view from the window of the aircrafts nearby made it quite interesting, and a quick rain shower next morning made it all the more beautiful.
We took a bus from the Luxembourg Airport towards the central station and got down mid-way when we spotted the City Skyliner which we had earlier set our eyes on, on our way to the hotel. The buses are cheap at 2 Euros from end to end so transportation won’t eat too much into your budget either.
The @city_skyliner was a great way to get excellent bird eye views of Luxembourg. For about 7 Euros per person, and after a 10 minute wait, we were on top on Luxembourg. The skyliner revolves to make sure you get to see all the little streets and the beautiful landscapes of this gorgeous city. There is an audio guide in the background that gives some good insight on the demographics of the country too. Following our descent, we enjoyed beer and fries at the food truck located at the foot of the skyliner. Later, we scouted the streets to pick up souvenirs, clicked some pictures at a Cathedral and proceeded to find a good place to eat.
We walked some more and arrived at a square that had restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. This dinner was slightly different from what you would expect of traditional Luxembourg cuisine. But between Italian, French and Mexican, we chose this. Gringos is a happening, lively and at the same time chilled out sports bar. With a fully occupied outdoor seating (with formal screenings) and empty indoors, you know the weather’s got to be perfect. And it was just right for sipping margaritas, munching on chicken fingers and wrapping up some delicious fajitas. I loved the guacamole in this one. And the tortillas were so soft!
Quite a lovely night, we walked the streets at 10.30pm and hopped on to an empty bus for our ride back to the hotel. Luxembourg, so humble!
