Chickery: where every clucking dream comes true!

Did your cravings for this chicken burger just shoot up after looking at the pic? Then stop what you’re doing and cluck away to The Chickery located in the Central district of La Mer.

chickery la mer

This newest spot at the current favorite on every Dubaians list – La Mer – offers a delightful mix of everything chicken! From fried chicken fingers and chicken feathers (not really feathers, but more like fillet) to fire roasted rotisserie chicken and an abundance of sides, The Chickery is THE place for all fried chicken lovers.

With a Southern influence in their menu – think Buttermilk Chicken, Cornbread, Mash n Gravy and more, the portions for most dishes at The Chickery are generous enough to suffice one person, along with a lot of items that are perfect to share.

This outlet features wooden accented interiors that give off a very American feel, and you will love its country appeal as much during the PM as much as you love the bright lit space during the day. Read on to find out what I recommend from their menu.

The Hot Chic

AED 35

This was one of the crispiest chicken burger’s I have had in quite some time. To be honest, when it comes to burgers, I am more of a crispy chicken sandwich person than beef (although I won’t say no to the latter). But since we were at the “chickery”, it was like my dream come true!

chickery la mer

Spicy fried chicken fingers, enhanced with jalapenos and a hot buttermilk ranch dressing that kept dripping all over my fingers as I tried to get that shot, this burger is on my highly recommended list. However, if you are not a fan of spicy chicken, you can opt for Chickery Classic. and if you are feeling slightly health conscious, maybe give the fried stuff a pass and go for GuakGuak which comes with rotisserie chicken and guacamole.

Here’s the thing; The Chickery makes chicken three ways: fingers, feathers and rotisserie. So all their burgers feature one of these three types of chicken. I didn’t ask, since I wanted to try their signatures, but you can check with them if they can mix and match the chicken type with the sauce and style of burger.

Open Sesame

AED 38

This one was slightly unconventional and a little too sweet for my liking. The open sesame sandwich featured crispy chicken feathers topped with a crunchy slaw, mayo and Asian sesame BBQ sauce – all sandwiched between white Pullman bread. This was slightly messier than the burger. So as much as I would like to repeat a white bread sandwich on my next visit, I will probably ask them to replace the bun to bread in one of their burgers.

Chicken Feathers

AED 35 (served with a side and dip)

These were bliss! Fried chicken lovers will love love love these. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, these tender chicken fillet pieces were covered with parmesan breadcrumbs. But while these were great, I have always been more of a fan of buttermilk fried chicken. So much so, that if it’s on the menu, it’s on my plate. So I still can’t be too sure the feathers were the ultimate until I’ve tried the fingers on their own (The Hot Chic had fingers).

chickery la mer

I know I have confused you quite a bit, so maybe order both. And here’s the good part: whether you order fingers or feather, every portion of 3 pieces comes along with a side and a dip. With 5 sides and 6 dips to choose from, you can go crazy with the mix and match!

Rotisserie Chicken

AED 35 (served with a side and dip)

After all that fried stuff, it was time to try out their third type of chicken – rotisserie. We couldn’t possibly think of downing a half or whole chicken, so we stuck to the quarter piece. Very well grilled, with juices intact, this spitfire roasted chicken was great on its own and would be even more perfect in a pulled sandwich (Look out for DixieBBQ). Marinated in the house Chickery Rub, the chicken offered a nice bite, and I especially loved the crusty burnt coating. Good use of spices there!

chickery la mer

Here’s a quick jist: Half portion comes with 2 small sides and 2 dips, while the whole chicken comes with 2 large sides and 3 dips. Go figure!

Don’t forget to add Buttermilk Ranch and Chickery Hot dipping sauces on the side to your dishes – AED 5 each

Cornbread

AED 15 / 20

Cornbread is something I have not had the chance to try out very often, so this one at The Chickery ticked all the boxes for me. Not too crumbly, not too hard, the freshness of this warm, golden, hot-off-the-oven bread was just right. It comes baked with jalapenos pieces inside, making it all the more desirable for me, and a small tub of honey butter as an accompaniment.

chickery la mer

We got the small portion as a side along with the feathers, but honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to order this on its own!

Mash n Gravy

AED 15 / 20

Oh em gee! I have never had a mash creamier than this. Almost like poutine, but with mash instead of fries, the gravy was infused with roasted garlic (my fav!) which added so much character to the mash. So creamy was the texture of this mash, despite being too full with all those burgers and fried chicken, I really didn’t have the heart to leave this unfinished.

chickery la mer

This too, was a small side portion along with the quarter rotisserie chicken. But if you love mash, you know you would want this.

#RashidaReviews

What I loved the most at The Chickery? The Hot Chic burger of course. But IMHO, this is one place that you will want to keep going back to until you have tried everything on their menu. And then you will want to keep going back more once you have decided your favorite.
From their chicken three ways – fingers, feathers and rotisserie – my favorite were the fingers.
Head over to La Mer and take along a big appetite because you’ll want to try them all.
