Let’s have some Chai Sai and some more
I started my morning craving this wonderful variety of tea I tried last night at Chai Sai in Karama. Even though you could easily narrow it down to a tea house, Chai Sai is much more than just tea. They offer a wide variety of classic and fusion parathas, rolls, sandwiches and cold drinks too. And even thought their restaurant is quite compact, it packs a punch with all the wonderful wall caricatures and more.
Read on to find out the fusion variety at Chai Sai.
Chai (Tea)
This photo features three of their many options in tea.
The Hari Mirchi milk tea is a spicy concoction of green chillies infused with tea leaves and stepped until the tea tastes hot, not just by temperature, but by flavor too.
The Elaichi milk tea combines the classic cardamom flavors that blend in just right with fresh milk and tea leaves.
The Chai Sai special comes with a unique Masala blend that is added to the tea while it’s steeping. It gives out an aromatic fragrance of whole spices like cloves, ginger, cardamom and more.
When at Chai Sai, it goes without saying that you need to have atleast one cup of tea, but in my opinion, try out two or three varieties to get a better perspective on the different tea types available out there!
Pizza Paratha
When they say fusion, they really make it crafty. This is the Pizza Paratha at Chai Sai which looks like a Quesadilla, is wrapped in a Desi paratha, and tastes like a pizza. So much global, no?
Stuffed in a slim packet between two pieces of golden brown soft parathas, is melted cheese, green bell peppers and olives. I would have liked one with some marinara sauce to complete the entire pizza experience, but this was great nonetheless. And of course, there was the Desi green chutney to give it a spicy kick.
Veg Manchurian roll
Roll up, bite it, dig in, and say wow! This is the Veg Manchurian roll at Chai Sai. Giving out nostalgic vibes, this one reminds you of the times your mom would wrap up home cooked dishes in a chapati and pack it for your school lunch in a fancy tiffin box.
Perfectly spiced and wrapped up in a soft paratha, this one comes smothered a delicious Indian Chinese styled sauce which added more game to their fusion factor.
I’m definitely going back to try out Kurkure Masala and Chilli Paneer roll along with the Pudina chai.
Cheese Masala Omelette
It’s another morning and another craving. This time I’m reminiscing about the Cheese Masala Omelette at Chai Sai which was so humble yet so yummy.
And tell me, what could be better than layers of cheesy fried egg sandwiched between slices of bread? The fact that it’s not just available for breakfast, but in fact you can order it any time during the day or evening.
Go and try this out for yourself and you’ll see why it’s so good.
Make sure you pair it with a cup or two of your choice of tea. Because these two are a match made in heaven.
For those who want to skip cheese, they also have a plain Masala Omelette sandwich option. And if this still doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s cheese & mushroom omelette, pancake styled omelette, dynamite omelette, tabouleh omelette and many more.
Paratha Burger
There’s fusion in the very name of this dish. The Paratha Burger at Chai Sai makes for a quick yet filling bite.
This all vegetarian restaurant puts in a veggie patty layered 26th cheese slices and slaw, between two semi circular paratha pieces to make it a proper burger. It’s not just any paratha though. This one is slightly dense and leavened, making it more stuff to act like a burger bun. I found this one slightly dry and would have preferred the Cheese more melted maybe, but the patty was the perfect mix of crisp and mushy.
